Azadi – Freedom, liberty, liberation; independence.
A beautiful word that means both a process and an achievement: both a goal and the struggle that is necessary to reach it.
Freedom is not something that it is gained once and for all, freedom needs constant nurturing, protection, construction.
Azadi is something that has been part of my own personal journey for a long time: in Kurdistan, in Kashmir and now in Kabul.
The quest for azadi is the ultimate goal of artistic production – a space of freedom where creative expression can take place.
Despite of violence, despite of war, despite of politics. Or perhaps as an alternative political dimension.
The quest for azadi is at the core of The Little Book of Kabul.
When freedom takes the shape of the desire to make art, the desire to fall in love, the desire to live a normal life.
